What Are We Writing?
For the next nine weeks, 6th graders are reinforcing their exploratory/informational writing techniques. Our 7th and 8th graders are engaged in argumentative writing.  You can assist your child at home by locating writing samples and having them identify the parts of each.
 
  • For exploratory/ informational, you should have your child identify the text structure, the subject of the text, topic sentences and supporting details and conclusions.  
  • For argumentative writing, you should have your child identify the hook, the claim statement, the counter claim statement, the rebuttal, supporting evidence for the claim and the conclusion.

Sequoyah will host the 2015 rising 9th graders information session on January 29 from 5-7 pm.  Please contact the counseling department for more information. 
Club Meetings
Art Club meets every Thursday from 4-5pm in Room 305.  Students must provide their own transportation.
Junior Beta Club meets every Friday morning in Room 409 from 8-8:30 am  
RACE to Respond
To prepare our students for the written response part of the Georgia Milestones assessment, the Sequoyah Faculty has adopted the RACE strategy to construct written responses in all content classes.  Instead of multiple choice answers, students use this strategy to synthesize information from the readings to construct their own answer.  
E-Books Now Available for Checkout
The Sequoyah Middle Library Media Center strives to make it easy for reading to part of each of our student's life.  Students now have access to a collection of E-Books accessible through DESTINY, our online library catalog.  Access to the titles does not require any subscription or specialized e-book reader; students simply log into their account and click on the FolletShelf link from the left navigation bar.
