Sequoyah's 4-H Program is Recognized by the AJC
Sequoyah's 4-H program is still rooted in the principles of community service, but with an urban twist. Under the leadership of Mrs. Ruehman, 8th grade gifted Science teacher and 4-H sponsor, the club has found ways to enhance it's local community.  Students involved in 4-H volunteer at our neighboring elementary school to tutor students.  Members also engage in environmental consciousness by operating the school's recycling program. Mrs. Ruehman also found a way to incorporate the "traditional farming" theme of 4-H into the club;  Sequoyah is unique in that its internal courtyard is also used as a classroom where students hatch and raise trout. Students monitor water quality and growth rates of the fish and after they reach the appropriate age and length, the fish are released into the Chattahoochee River. Great job 4-H!
Congratulations to the SMS Chorus
Eleven of our best SMS Chorus students were selected to represent Sequoyah Middle School at Georgia Music Educators Association Annual District IV Honor Chorus. Students came together from all over Dekalb county, Rockdale county, and Newton county schools to work with distinguished choral clinicians Ms. Chantae Pittman, Mr. Joel Singleton, and Dr. Deanna Joseph from GSU. The concluding concert on Saturday, January 9th was described by DCSD Music Coordinator as the "Super Bowl of Vocal Music!"
