Are you Ready?  School starts August 10..  Don't forget that Sequoyah adheres to a dress code policy.  Students will need Navy or Khaki traditional pants (no jeggins, jogging pants or softpants).  Collared shirts must be White, Green, or Gold/ Yellow.  These items can be purchased at any clothing store or you can purchase a uniform package through the school.

Join the EDMODO Summer Science Session
Now that you are well rested, the Sequoyah 7th grade Science Department would like to invite you to enjoy a summer science exploratory group. Use the code 8kkcfv to enroll in the group via EDMODO.  (you should have already set up an account using S+ your 7-digit student number as the username AND password).

Join the EDMODO Summer Literature Session
Poetry is that one genre of literature that is completely left up to the interpretation of the reader (at least that is my understanding of it).  In each level of middle school you will explore a unit of poetry.  No matter the grade level, there are several poetic devices that are constantly explored: tone, mood, metaphor and simile. Join the EDMODO summer reading group and take a shot at analyzing "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein. Use code

Congratulations to Luis Montoy and Nancy Tran, 2015 Recipients of The Cross Keys Foundation Award

The Cross Keys Foundation had its start as a grass-roots volunteer effort in early 2009. A few community members became aware of the neglected conditions at Cross Keys High School and decided it was time for a change. Upon discovering the underlying reasons for the neglect, the volunteers realized there were fundamental challenges affecting all Cross Keys attendance area schools and decided to do something about it.

The Cross Keys Foundation continues to support efforts for the seven schools of the Cross Keys High School attendance area. These are Cross Keys High School, Sequoyah Middle, Oakcliff Elementary, Cary Reynolds Elementary, Dresden Elementary, Montclair Elementary, and Woodward Elementary.

The mission of the Cross Keys Foundation is to promote “Every Opportunity for Every Child” in the Cross Keys area of North DeKalb by direct classroom support, scholarships for graduating seniors, special projects, and advocacy.

The middle school scholars are chosen based on their potential to be involved in leadership roles at their high school or in their community as they continue with their education.

Science Matters

The Science Department would like to congratulate Thuan Tran and Nicolas Galtere.  These exceptional students were recognized recently at the 1st annual Science Torch Awards for placing in the DCSS Regional Science Fair.

Sequoyah's first DCSD 2015' chess experience was a great success. Although we did not bring home a novice, intermediate, or expert medal; Jaiyonna Darity and Jyles Trinidad represented Sequoyah well. Great Job ladies! A special thank you goes out to all of our club members this year for excellent attendance: Jocelyn Meraz, Marco Bravo, Jyles Trinidad, Quinci Saunders, Jaiyonna Darity, Michael Batchelor, Mekhi Holmes, Roy Canaca, and Mary He.
